On 6-7 July 2015, EMBARQ India’s road safety experts organised a workshop for the Gurgaon Police best practices of road accident data collection. The workshop had two objectives. First, documenting and understanding the road accident recording process in the context of Gurgaon; and secondly, evaluating the data for completeness, accuracy and objectivity.

“When we plan a city, the plans are usually restricted to land-use. But we need to move beyond land-use. What’s more important is how to move people”, said Vikas Gupta (IAS) Municipal Commissioner, Gurgaon speaking at the opening session of Talking Transit, highlighting the importance of public transport within city planning. He also added that it is important to build sensitivity around what is good, sustainable transport in order to increase ridership and reduce dependence on private vehicles.

New Delhi. Wednesday, 1 July 2015: A two-day workshop, Talking Transit, starting tomorrow is bringing together national experts to design a new bus service for the city of Gurgaon. Results will benefit lakhs of Gurgoan residents, who must depend on autorickshaws and skeletal bus services run by the state of Haryana for public transport.
Vikas Gupta (IAS) Municipal Commissioner, Gurgaon will speak at the opening session, along with SK Patra, Technical Director, ASRTU, RK Kataria (IAS) MD, KSRTC, and Amit Bhatt, Strategy Head – Urban Transport, EMBARQ-WRI India.

The 100 Smart Cities Programme initiated by the Government of India is gaining momentum. The Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) has created a sectional committee under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in order to develop a formal process of preparing, issuing and implementing standards that will govern the 100 Smart Cities Programme. On Friday, 22 May 2015, the committee held its first meeting under the chairmanship of Dr. Sudhir Krishna, IAS, Former Secretary – Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) and Chairman of the Smart Cities Sectional Committee.

Bangalore, INDIA (7 May, 2015) — Citizens for the City, a sustainable urbanisation initiative was launched by United Technologies Corporation (UTC), in partnership with EMBARQ India, Centre for Public Problem Solving, BBMP, BPAC, and United Way of Bengaluru. As part of this initiative, the Neighbourhood Improvement Partnership Challenge was announced, encouraging citizens’ groups to engage in a participatory process to resolve key issues relating to transport, safety, energy conservation, waste management, public health, and sanitation.
