WRI India has put together “EV Connect” as monthly newsletter to bring several developments around the world into one document. Along with this, WRI India has also put in place a webinar series that brings experts to talk about some of the basics, that are often not fully understood and yet is important. We hope that these two initiatives will help those leading the transition to electric mobility and make their task a lot easier.

Jaipur, Rajasthan, 23 July 2019: The World Resources Institute, India (WRI India) organized a multi-stakeholder consultation in Jaipur, to reflect the role of energy access in providing essential services to the undeveloped and climate vulnerable areas of Rajasthan. Representatives from Rajasthan Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) joined international and national stakeholders operating across healthcare, education, skilling and livelihood sectors and discussed measures to build resilience of the state’s large rural populations against climate disruptions.

The Fort Kochi island is an important tourist hub in the southern state of Kerala and is accessed by different public (boat, buses, autos etc) modes of transport. However, rapid urbanization and the consequent increase in population and inflow of private vehicles has led to congestion and degradation of street infrastructure and deterioration of public spaces, which have cumulatively impacted livability in the area. Poor non-motorized conditions and lack of basics amenities has led to underutilization of heritage, streets & public spaces.

A two-day stakeholder workshop to discuss and design the implementation of the Surat Clean Air Action Plan (SCAP) – part of a national mission to improve the air quality in Indian cities – commenced in Surat, Gujarat on Thursday, 25 July 2019. The workshop is being led by the World Resources Institute (WRI) India, in collaboration with Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) and Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), and supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies and Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation (SSEF).

As one of the fastest growing economies in the world, India has seen a surge in its mobility demand and a rapid change in travel behaviour. Private vehicles have replaced public transport systems as a preferred mode of transport due to an increase in affordability and simultaneous decline in the quality and quantity of bus systems. Public transit usage has dropped from 69% in 1994 to 38% in 2007. There is a need to augment existing public bus systems, to make them more accessible, attractive and efficient.

WRI India served as knowledge partners for Raahgiri Day, a streets for all initiative, in New Delhi’s city centre
New Delhi: The Raahgiri Foundation, in partnership with WRI India, the New Delhi Municipal Council, and the New Delhi Police Department revived Raahgiri Day at Connaught Place on Sunday. This event will be held every Sunday for the next six months, affording people vehicle-free streets to walk, cycle, play, and engage with the community. Taj Hassan, Special Commissioner of Police, New Delhi, and Rashmi Singh, Secretary, NDMC, were chief guests.
