Development of data frameworks for battery circularity in India
To strengthen India’s battery circular economy, WRI India convened a roundtable of policymakers, OEMs, recyclers, and experts to explore the development of a robust battery data-sharing framework. The proceedings outline key takeaways, global best practices, and a roadmap for building trust, traceability, and sustainability across the battery value chain.

As India accelerates its transition to electric mobility, battery circularity is critical to address raw material scarcity and supply chain challenges. A key enabler is a robust battery data-sharing framework to support traceability, efficient end-of-life management, and sustainable material sourcing. WRI India, as the technical partner to UNEP under the GEF-funded “Electrifying Mobility in Cities” project, hosted a roundtable on data frameworks for battery circularity. The discussion brought together stakeholders from government, academia, OEMs, and recycling firms to explore guiding principles, development approaches, and key challenges.
