Flood Risk in Mumbai – Consultative Stakeholder Workshop

A workshop for framing urban flooding issues through analytical methods and data, ethnographic research, catalogues of personal experiences, and available financial toolkits

BMC in collaboration with WRI India as knowledge partner conducted a two-day consultative workshop on Flood Risk in Mumbai in April 2022. Government representatives from various departments: hydrological, engineering, and stormwater management discussed the complexities of managing monsoon floods in Mumbai, with flood modelling experts, social scientists, urban planners and designers, community organizations, and impacted citizens. WRI India developed this summary note from the workshop discussions which includes highlights from panels on technical considerations, climate vulnerability, citizen impact stories, infrastructure interventions, financing, and government initiatives.
