Northeast Electric Mobility Conclave

During the beginning of September 2019, WRI India took its first initiative towards the faster adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in Northeast India by participating in a discussion with the Government of Assam for drafting the Assam EV policy, its implementation and its wider impact in India.

As a next step, WRI India will be organizing an EV workshop in Guwahati on 30th October 2019, aiming to speed up the adoption of Electric Vehicles in Assam and other North Eastern states of India. Mr. Ashutosh Agnihotri, Commissioner and Secretary to Govt. of Assam, Mr. A. P. Tiwari, Managing Director, ASTC Assam, Mr Virendra Mittal, Transport Commissioner, Govt of Assam, representatives from Assam Govt and KPMG India, and Shravani Sharma of WRI India attended the initial discussion.

The aim of the workshop is to provide a clear understanding and firm grasp of these concepts to expedite the adoption of EVs and implement electric mobility in the best possible way. The workshop also seeks to enhance policy and product development, and functioning and maintenance of EVs. With Assam taking the lead, it is expected that the discourse of the workshop will find its way to the remaining “Seven Sisters”, namely Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura, aiding in the overall implementation of EVs in Northeast India.
