Energy efficiency is central to India’s climate commitments, and Karnataka, one of the country’s largest energy-consuming states, has taken a proactive step by launching its Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation Policy 2022-27. This policy provides a structured framework to advance sustainability, positioning Karnataka as a leader among Indian states in energy efficiency implementation.


The Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL), as the nodal agency for the Policy, ensures coordination for Policy implementation and development of capacity-building programs for all stakeholders. To facilitate the smooth implementation of the policy, KREDL has been conducting annual workshops in collaboration with WRI India. The first workshop on June 14th, 2024, introduced the policy framework and outlined the roles and responsibilities of the Sector Responsible Organisations (SROs). A second workshop was conducted in March 2025 to review the progress and refine the approach. The third workshop on June 30th, 2026, aims to enable the stakeholders to independently incorporate energy efficiency into their regular programs and activities in Karnataka's buildings sector.


The workshop will bring together building sector stakeholders, with a strong focus on representatives from relevant government departments and agencies in Karnataka. The session will focus on the roadmap for advancing energy efficiency in Karnataka’s buildings sector and provide actionable insights that departments can adopt. The discussion seeks to draw on knowledge shared through the Energy Transition Preparedness Initiative (ETPI), a multi-sectoral, multi-state endeavor to understand state-level plans, actions, and governance processes towards an energy transition.  Furthermore, these sessions are designed to facilitate cross-learning among states, enabling the exchange of best practices and insights from state-specific initiatives to promote energy efficiency in buildings.
