Bio

Shalini Singh is the Executive Editor in the Core Communications team at WRI India. In this role, she oversees the editing and development of communication products, including blogs and Op-Eds, while also contributing to high-level media strategy and conducting storytelling workshops.

With a career in print journalism from 2006 to 2017, Shalini's reporting on environmental issues has been recognized with several prestigious awards in Indian journalism. She is also a co-founder of the People's Archive of Rural India (PARI), a multimedia repository launched in 2014. From 2018 to 2023, she worked as a freelancer, with her climate change reporting winning the 2023 Ricardo Ortega Memorial Prize (silver) from the United Nations Correspondents Association.

In 2017, Shalini was selected as a Nieman Fellow for journalism at Harvard University, spending a year in residence with 23 global counterparts. She holds a postgraduate degree in Social Communications Media from Sophia Polytechnic, Mumbai, and a BA (Hons) in Economics from Sri Venkateswara College, Delhi University.

When not engaging in her professional work, Shalini enjoys practicing parenting skills on her Dachshund daughter, Sheeba, and dreams of a future where cities are bicycle-friendly for all genders.

There were disappointments amid the headlines as the gavel came down on the United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP29, in Baku, Azerbaijan. COP29 did achieve some notable outcomes, particularly on Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, which lays out how countries can trade carbon credits to achieve their climate targets. Meanwhile, climate finance — 2024’s overarching theme — sparked intense debate over its sources and definitions. A headline figure was agreed upon, but developing nations were left seeking greater clarity and stronger commitments.

IT professional Nagarjun Kandukuru, 51, looks out of the window of his Bannerghatta Road home in Bengaluru and watches as his 16-year-old son cycles off to music class. The family has never owned a car. Kandukuru himself uses a motorcycle to commute to work. “Poorly maintained roads and the traffic make me anxious, and that translates into bad moods at home.
