Bus Karo Workshop

WRI India Sustainable Cities, in partnership with the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), will be hosting the next Bus Karo workshop in Bengaluru on 17 and 18 November 2016. The theme of the workshop is ‘Modernizing City Bus Services – Vision 2022’.

The two-day workshop will focus on much needed institutional and financial (taxation, subsidies, innovative financing, etc.) reforms in State Transport Undertakings (STUs) and Special Purpose vehicles (SPVs), which provide city bus services in India. The workshop will draw on expertise from various cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Bhopal and others. Local and international experts will highlight successful initiatives with regard to taxation policies, subsidies, innovative financing and improving the overall operational efficiency and safety of bus systems. Furthermore, the goal is to move towards ‘Vision 2022’, a forward looking roadmap for city bus systems, by bringing major reforms to the management and operation of STUs.

This workshop is part of WRI India’s Talking Transit-Bus Karo series and is supported by the Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, a non-profit organization supporting sustainable mobility, renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions in India. WRI India’s Bus Karo initiative aims at facilitating a peer-to-peer network that encourages shared learning between city bus agencies from around the country.
