Role of Local Governments and Participatory Planning in Kerala’s Transition to Clean Energy

WRI India’s Sustainable Energy Transition project in Kerala aims to support the state and local governments in developing strategies to increase the use of renewable energy in the state's energy mix. One of the main project objectives is to create strategies for Local Self Government Institutions to deploy clean energy projects.

As part of this objective, WRI India is partnering with the Nava Kerala Mission to strengthen local governments in implementing clean energy projects within their jurisdictions. The Nava Kerala Mission is a government initiative launched to address socio-economic development challenges faced by Kerala and create new development perspectives and plans.

On December 18th, a workshop will be jointly organized by WRI India and the Nava Kerala Mission to deliberate on the role of local governments in Kerala's energy transition. The workshop will have technical sessions on case study presentations and a panel discussion on the different opportunities and challenges of local governments to implement clean energy projects.
