Focus Group Discussion for developing a City Action Plan for Net Zero Carbon and Resilient Buildings (NZCRB) for Nashik City

Net zero carbon and resilient buildings (NZCRBs) are energy-efficient structures powered by renewables and constructed with low-carbon materials. The Government of India's programs, such as smart cities, target energy-efficient buildings and renewable energy. Nashik is designated as a smart city and has developed its Climate Action Plan. Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) is partnering with WRI India to develop an action plan to Net Zero Carbon and Resilient Buildings (NZCRBs) for Nashik city. The plan, based on Nashik Climate Action Plan is tailored to local conditions, focuses on policies (e.g., energy performance disclosure mandates), technologies (e.g., passive design principles), and incentives (e.g., financing mechanisms for NZCRB projects) to achieve the city's net zero carbon and resilient building goals. The success of this initiative depends on aligning with the city's development vision, climate considerations, building stock, market dynamics, institutional capacities, and the needs of its residents.

The Focus Group Discussion will be jointly organized by WRI India and Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) to facilitate the action plan development process for Nashik. The objectives of this meeting are the following:

  • Engage a diverse set of stakeholders who are important in the preparation of the NZCRB action plan.
  • Discuss the recommendations in the Nashik Climate Action Plan to decarbonise the building sector in Nashik City.
  • Discuss the focused questions among the convened experts to prepare an implementation plan for the decarbonisation of the building sector in Nashik.
  • Identify partners who are interested in assisting the city to achieve NZCRB vision.
