Demo Days: Land Accelerator South Asia 2021

India’s landmass has a significant potential for forest protection and landscape restoration – around 43% of the available land can sequester 3 to 4.3 billion tons of above ground carbon by 2040. This can also lead to a range of benefits including biodiversity conservation, provisioning of fuelwood, fodder and non-timber forest produce and enhanced livelihood opportunities for local communities. Recognising this opportunity, World Resource Institute (WRI) India launched the Land Accelerator South Asia in 2020 – a first-of-its-kind program which inspires and supports entrepreneurs working on sustainable and profitable business models to restore lands across South Asia.

With funding support from IKEA Foundation and program support from our ecosystem partners Startup India, AGNIi, and Invest India along with our community partner Labs Indigram, the Land Accelerator South Asia program expanded multi-fold this year to support 58 restoration entrepreneurs. Cohort 2021 exemplifies immense potential for restoring our forests and farmlands with their unique business solutions. This incredible group of 58 restoration entrepreneurs from India and Sri Lanka is leading innovative businesses on sustainable agriculture, smart agri-tech systems, clean energy, NTFPs value chains, circular economy, and organic land use management.

WRI India and Sangam Ventures are co-organizing Demo Days: Land Accelerator South Asia 2021, a virtual event where the 15 finalists from this year’s cohort will be pitching their businesses to the investors and get an opportunity for fundraising. The event will host an esteemed panel of investors namely, Upaya Social Ventures, Caspian Impact Investment, Omnivore, Climate Bonds Initiative, 3i Partners, Alsisar Impact, Ankur Capital Fund, Enzia Ventures, Green Artha, Villgro Innovations Foundation, Vriksh Impact, Social Alpha and Stellaris Venture Partners. The 15 finalists will showcase their business solutions during these two days and will also receive a Euro 3000 grant each from IKEA Foundation to scale up their ventures.
