Sumedha is a Head – Building Decarbonization with the energy program, where she leads the program’s work in the areas of building decarbonization and cooling. With an interest in buildings, Sumedha is also leading research and stakeholder engagement on the role of building sector governance in accelerating the clean energy transition. She works closely with state and local government agencies on the implementation of building efficiency policies and programs. In the past, Sumedha managed the Zero Carbon Building Accelerator project which supported countries in developing national ZCB roadmaps, subnational action plans and initiating adoption of policies to support stakeholders to accelerate market transformation towards ZCBs. She has also contributed to programs on behavior-change and understanding residential sector energy consumption.

Prior to WRI, Sumedha worked at ICF providing advisory services on energy efficient appliances, Demand Side Management and Low Emissions Development projects. Sumedha has co-authored book chapters and several articles on climate and energy topics in peer reviewed journals.

Sumedha holds a Master’s in Natural Resources Management from TERI University in New Delhi, India.

In her free time, Sumedha likes to organize things, cook and research new ways to engage an active toddler. Sumedha stays in Bengaluru with her husband, her daughter Sanmayi and Yammo, her cat.
