Abhishek Venkitaraman is a Senior Program Associate – GIS with the Cities program at WRI India, based in Delhi. He contributes to the Geoanalytics team by developing knowledge products such as technical notes, research publications, and papers that support sustainable urban development.

Before joining WRI India, Abhishek worked extensively in research and academia, focusing on architecture, urban planning, environmental policy, and energy transition. He has authored several papers in these fields and previously served as a Fellow with the Delhi Legislative Assembly. He has also volunteered with NGOs on cultural and environmental outreach projects, including work with the Kyoto Prefectural Government in Japan.

Abhishek holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and a Master’s degree in Urban and Rural Planning. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Global Environmental Studies.

Outside of work, Abhishek enjoys long walks around historic monuments, reading, writing, sketching, and Indian classical singing. He is also passionate about languages, art, cultural studies, and anthropology.
