Enabling Circularity in Renewable Energy: The Role of Industry
India’s renewable energy capacity has seen a significant increase over the last decade and is only expected to rise exponentially over the coming years for the country to meet its NetZero targets by 2070. Large scale deployment of clean energy technologies will come with large quantities of waste and cause huge stress on land and other resources.
While current efforts are focused on circularity at the end of life, concerted efforts will be essential through the value chains - from manufacturing to end of life, to ensure proper recycling of the waste that is produced. This could include recycling, re-using, refurbishing and repurposing of materials as well as extending the life of renewable energy products. For this, collaboration between various stakeholders, especially industry, is crucial.
The session aims to unpack the current developments underway and understand what is essential to accelerate circularity in the renewable energy sector.
