The Summit—organized by WRI India with partners including NITI Aayog, DST, UNEP and ARAI, and supported by the Battery360 Alliance—examines how India can scale local manufacturing and domestic value addition, accelerate research commercialization, and strengthen circular value chains.

It situates the discussion in the rapid growth of lithium-ion battery demand, projected to reach 220 GWh annually by 2030 (from 20 GWh in 2022), alongside today’s import dependence and planned 150 GWh/year gigafactory capacity by 2030.

The proceedings also highlight recycling as a strategic secondary supply chain opportunity (128 GWh potential by 2030) and outline the vision for “Battery Aadhaar” as a unified digital framework for traceability and life-cycle data interoperability across the battery ecosystem.
