India Food Waste GHG Emission Estimation Tool
The India Food Waste GHG Emission Estimation Tool helps estimate greenhouse gas emissions across the food waste supply chain. Designed for governments, businesses, and communities, it supports data-driven decisions to reduce emissions, improve waste management, and strengthen local climate action.
This tool is designed to estimate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated across three key stages of the food waste supply chain: collection and transportation, treatment, and disposal. Recognising that food waste data varies significantly across Indian cities and towns, the tool offers flexible data entry options that allow governments, food service providers, retailers, resident welfare associations, and other users to work with the information they have available.
It combines user-provided data with established emission factors to estimate emissions and identify the major sources of GHG emissions within a food waste management system. By providing a clear understanding of emissions hotspots, the tool supports evidence-based planning and decision-making, helping users reduce food waste, improve waste management practices, and contribute to local climate change mitigation efforts.
