Sweeta Sumant
Senior Program Associate – Sustainable Cities & Transport
Sweeta Sumant is a Senior Program Associate at WRI India, where she works on climate resilience, multi-hazard risk mapping and sustainable urban-regional planning. Her work supports policy-facing research on how hazard exposure, ecological systems and development patterns can inform safer, more resilient cities and regions.
Before joining WRI India, Sweeta worked as a Senior Research Fellow in Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, on climate change impacts and adaptation for climate-resilient North East India. She led interdisciplinary research on livelihoods, biodiversity, gender vulnerability and climate adaptation. She also worked at Ashoka University as a teaching fellow in the Department of Environmental Studies.
Sweeta holds a Ph.D. in Human Ecology from Tezpur University, Assam, with research focused on plant bioresources, livelihoods, gender dynamics and climate change in the Eastern Himalayas. Her doctoral and academic work has been published in multiple peer-reviewed research articles.
Outside work, Sweeta enjoys dancing, exploring new cuisines and listening to podcasts.
