Amy Rachel Joseph is a Senior Program Associate with the Urban Development team at WRI India under the Sustainable Cities and Transport program. Her work focuses on integrating early childhood development (ECD) and caregiver-centric approaches into urban planning, design, and policy governance across Indian cities.

As part of the Nurturing Neighbourhoods initiative, Amy supports cities in designing inclusive public spaces, streets, neighbourhoods, and early childhood development centres that respond to the needs of young children and caregivers. She works closely with city governments, community organisations, and frontline workers to develop and implement child-friendly urban interventions.

Amy has contributed to several knowledge and capacity-building products under the Nurturing Neighbourhoods program, including design guidelines for ECD centres, play and public space toolkits, ECD training modules, and Play Masterplan for Jabalpur. She regularly conducts workshops and technical support sessions for government officials and practitioners on child-friendly urban design and planning.

Prior to joining WRI India, Amy worked with the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) on urban design and architectural guidelines for Amaravati. She has also worked with private architecture and urban design firms in Delhi.

Amy holds a Master’s degree in Urban Design from the School of Planning and Architecture, Bhopal, and a Bachelor of Architecture (Honours) degree from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi.

She is an avid traveller and likes reading history and fiction. Amy loves to explore graphic design in her free time.
