Annual Conference: Green Power Market Development Group - India

World Resources Institute (WRI) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) are hosting an Annual National Conference for the Green Power Market Developers Group (GPMDG) - India, in Mumbai on 20 January, 2017.

This workshop intends to facilitate collaborations among a diverse group of energy stakeholders including regulators, utilities, businesses, governments, and civil society in order to promote the growth of renewable energy in India.

Specific focus will be given towards understanding the opportunities and challenges in scaling up corporate renewable energy procurement in Maharashtra. In addition, the workshop will deliberate on the role of GPMDG in realising the state’s targets for energy promotion.

GPMDG – India is a partnership between WRI and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) that works with large commercial and industrial energy consumers to rapidly scale their use of renewable energy.

GPMDG – India works closely with government and other institutions to help companies set and achieve ambitious renewable energy goals through innovative methods of demand aggregation and transaction structuring.

Thus far, the group has had several stakeholder consultation meetings and steering committee meetings, which facilitated 210 MW of green power procurement deals by the Indian industry, and successfully engaged with over 350 companies in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu till date. It is hoped that by 2020, a target of 1000 MW of Green Power procurement will be met.
