WRI India at COP 22

The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is holding its 22nd Conference of the Parties (COP 22) from November 7-18 in Marrakech, Morocco. Negotiators from nearly 200 countries are convening to advance the implementation of the Paris Agreement on climate change that was struck at COP21 in December 2015. COP 22 presents a crucial opportunity to advance implementation of the Agreement, moving us further towards a zero-carbon, climate resilient world with a growing global economy.

Climate Change Adaptation Actions in India

Where: India Pavilion, COP 22, Marrakech

Description:

The side-event 'Climate Change Adaptation Actions in India', hosted by NABARD along with the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEF & CC) aims to deliberate on current policy framework and priorities, learnings from project and programme implementation, barriers related to finance, technology, stakeholder engagement and scaling up. The event is expected to facilitate an interchange of national and international perspectives with regard to adaptation actions, promote a national and international funding mechanism for adaptation action in India and evolve a strategy for mainstreaming adaptation action in development planning.

COP 22 - Sustainable Transportation Network: Achieving India’s INDCs

When: November 09 | 8.30 PM to 10.30 PM IST

Where: India Pavilion, COP 22, Marrakech

Description:

This session, organised by the Ministry of Railways and the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), will discuss the various paths to realise the potential of the transport sector for greenhouse gas emissions' (GHG) mitigation, in the context of developing countries.

COP 22 - India’s GHG Inventory

When: November 10 | 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM IST

Where: The Climate Studio, Blue Zone, Marrakech

Description:

This session is organised by the Vasudha Foundation & Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation. As a key technical partner for GHG Platform India, a civil society initiative for transparent accounting of GHG emissions, WRI will present the current GHG emissions trajectory covering 2007-2012 and analyse trends and key impacts, mapping these with India’s national communications.

COP 22 Leadership - Carbon Pricing: Driving Ambition and Action

When: November 15 | 6.00 PM to 7.30 PM IST

Where: IETA Business Hub, Blue Zone, Marrakech

Description:

Organised by the World Bank Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition, this high-level event will take stock of the progress already made, showcase individual action and leadership and bring up new voices and ambition to address climate change through market-based approaches.

COP 22 - Private Sector Initiatives in Climate Change

When: November 18 | 4.30 PM to 6.30 PM IST

Where: India Pavilion, Blue Zone, Marrakech

Description:

The round table, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), will focus on the role of the private sector towards achieving India’s INDCs and low carbon growth. Interventions will elaborate on developments in the India GHG Program project, that is being collectively executed by WRI India, CII and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI).
