Annual Conference: Green Power Market Developers Group, India
World Resources Institute (WRI) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) are hosting the second Annual National Conference for the Green Power Market Developers Group (GPMDG), India on 14 September 2015 in Chennai.
The purpose of the conference is to deliberate on renewable energy policy issues, strategies to scale up green power procurement, and to share success stories that could be replicated.
Key Government officials from state nodal agencies of renewable energy, State Electricity Regulatory Commissions and DISCOMs, and senior industry leaders who have taken the lead on procuring green power in their sectors will take part in this meeting.
GPMDG is a joint initiative of WRI and CII and supported by Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation. The objective of this programme is to scale up the Indian green energy market through extensive engagement with industry, facilitating deals, and enabling the creation of supportive policy measures.
This initiative adapts innovative approaches to rapidly increase the share of renewable energy in the overall energy consumption of commercial and industrial establishments. It was initiated in Karnataka in January 2013 and was subsequently launched as a nationwide programme the following year in New Delhi under the leadership of Mr Ramesh Kymal, CMD, Gamesa Wind Turbines, India.
Thus far, the group has had several stakeholder consultation meetings and steering committee meetings, which facilitated 110 MW of green power procurement deals between industry energy consumers and Green Power Developers till date. It is hoped that by 2020, a target of 1000 MW of Green Power procurement will be met.
