Sumit Kale
Junior Program Associate – Hydrogen, Sustainable Cities & Transport
Sumit Kale is a Junior Program Associate with the Hydrogen team at WRI India, where he supports research and strategic initiatives on hydrogen adoption and India's energy transition. His work focuses on techno-economic assessments, policy analysis, and low-carbon transport fuels, including sustainable aviation fuel and maritime decarbonization.
Before joining WRI India, Sumit gained experience in clean energy research and analysis, including a virtual internship with Vardhan Consulting Engineers (VCE), where he conducted a techno-commercial analysis of electric vehicles in India. He began at WRI India as an intern before moving into his current role. His interests include hydrogen technologies, electric vehicles, and sustainable infrastructure.
Sumit holds an MTech in Infrastructure Engineering with a specialization in Energy from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur. His master's research evaluated India's hydrogen economy as part of its energy transition, examining potential locations for hydrogen plants based on solar potential and water scarcity, and assessing regional water availability for large-scale hydrogen production.
Originally from Maharashtra, India, Sumit is based in Delhi. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, experimenting with new recipes, and spending time in nature.
