Shamindra Nath Roy
Lead – Research, Data & Impact

Shamindra Nath Roy is the Lead in the Research, Data, and Impact (RDI) team at WRI India. His work focuses on strengthening and mentoring research publications and outputs, particularly related to spatial and socio-economic data. He is a mixed-method researcher with an interest in analyzing inequalities through a spatial lens. Shamindra has worked with large-scale administrative and survey datasets alongside spatial data. His research covers rural-urban transformations, urban local governance, internal migration in India, labor and employment issues, and socio-spatial inequalities in basic services in Delhi. He has also published on geography education in India.
Prior to joining WRI, Shamindra worked at the Centre for Policy Research for over eight years. He has also been a visiting researcher at CESSMA, Université de Paris, and has undertaken research consultancies with the Asian Development Bank, International Labour Organization, Harvard University, Brown University, and the World Bank. Additionally, he has taught GIS and Spatial Analysis courses at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University, Delhi.
Shamindra holds an M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Regional Development with a specialization in geography from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Originally from Bolpur-Shantiniketan, West Bengal, he is now based in New Delhi. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, listening to ragas, and reading fiction.
