Samar Das is a Senior Program Associate with the Climate, Economics and Finance Program at WRI India. He contributes to advancing subnational climate action through strategic research, policy engagement, and on-ground implementation.

Before joining WRI India, Samar worked as a GHG auditor, conducting validation and verification of greenhouse gas emissions across climate projects under multiple carbon credit mechanisms. His work covered safe drinking water programs in East Africa, wastewater treatment initiatives in Indonesia, and bamboo waste to biochar projects in Vietnam. He also supported energy efficiency initiatives through improved cookstoves and household biogas systems, and contributed to a project on hydrogen production via dual fluidized bed gasification funded by the Central Power Research Institute. Earlier, he served as an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology in Arunachal Pradesh.

Samar holds a PhD in Energy Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, an MTech in Energy Technology from Tezpur University, and a BTech in Mechanical Engineering from Rajasthan Technical University. His research has been published in leading international journals, with over 300 citations and an h-index of 8.

Outside of work, Samar enjoys playing cricket and football, watching matches, traveling to new destinations, and listening to Assamese music
