Senior Program Associate – Air Quality

Dr. Praveen Kumar Singh is the Senior Program Associate – Air Quality, Sustainable Cities & Transport at WRI India. In this role, he provides technical assistance to Gorakhpur urban local bodies, supporting and implementing multi-sectoral solutions to mitigate air pollution. His work focuses on scaling municipal air quality actions through capacity building and close collaboration with city governments to implement policies, processes, and projects to enhance air quality.
Before joining WRI India, Praveen gained extensive research experience in the fields of glaciers, climate change, aerosols, air quality, radiation measurement & modeling. He has been part of multiple high-altitude expeditions in India and Nepal, including the Everest expedition by National Geographic in April 2019. He has worked at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee and the International Centre of Integrated Mountain Development, Nepal. He has been deeply involved in multiple research projects in India and Nepal.
Praveen holds a Ph.D. from IIT Roorkee, focusing on the impact of black carbon aerosols on the Hindu Kush Himalayan region. He has an M.Sc. in Environmental Science from the Central University of Rajasthan, Ajmer, and a B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Gautam Buddh Technical University, Lucknow. He has published numerous international articles in renowned journals and presented his research findings at various conferences.
Outside of his professional life, Praveen is passionate about trekking, exploring new places, photography, movies, and reading about international relations and geopolitics.
