Dr Nitya Sharma
Senior Program Manager – Food Loss and Waste
Nitya Sharma is a Senior Program Manager with the Food Loss and Waste team in WRI India’s Food, Land and Water program. Her work focuses on developing and advancing strategies to reduce food loss and waste across food supply chains.
Nitya brings more than a decade of research and applied experience in food systems, post-harvest management, food processing and agricultural engineering. Prior to joining WRI India, she was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and a researcher at the Department of Science and Technology’s Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing. She was also awarded the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship under Horizon Europe, through which she undertook research on circular agri-food systems at Teagasc in Dublin, Ireland.
Nitya holds a PhD in Agricultural Engineering, with a specialization in Processing and Food Engineering, from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. She was also a recipient of the Commonwealth Split-Site Doctoral Scholarship, through which she conducted part of her doctoral research at the University of Reading, United Kingdom.
Outside of work, Nitya enjoys sketching, watching her plants grow, and seeking out new trails to trek and explore.
