Dr. Ashish Sharma is a Manager in Air Quality at WRI India Ross Center for Sustainable Cities and Transport. He is based in the Mumbai office and leading program development and coordination with city government and stakeholders to further municipal action to improve air quality. He collaborates with partners to build a robust ecosystem for air quality related conversation in the city by forming interest groups, capacity building, and conducting focused discussions. Prior to joining WRI, he worked as a Principal Project Scientist at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, where he led research, design and development of testing and validation tools for air pollution monitoring equipment’s including low-cost sensors and high-end instruments.
Ashish holds a PhD in civil and environmental engineering from The University of Surrey. His PhD thesis was on quantification and mitigation of particulate matter exposure to young children. During his stay at Surrey, he worked for over 4 years with the Global Centre of Clean Air Research (GCARE). His PhD research project, Mitigating Air Pollution Exposure Assessment of Young Children (MAPE) was focused on developing novel exposure control methods for in-pram babies by creating a 'clean air zone' around them.
His PhD research at Surrey has had a notable impact on the field of air pollution in urban environments. It has garnered attention from both academic and industry circles, as well as local communities and international media outlets such as the BBC and Telegraph. His research interests encompass various aspects of environmental sustainability, including air pollution management in urban settings, assessment of exposure and risks, and evaluating the economic and health implications of these issues.
Apart from his routine engagements in engineering research projects, he is an enthusiast of entrepreneurship, management, and global leadership programs. He is also a graduate of global leadership programs at Macquarie University, Australia and the University of Toledo, USA.
