Debkanya is Head of Strategic Communications for the Executive Office at WRI India. She is responsible for developing and overseeing all aspects of the CEO's internal and external communications, including messaging, media presence, content strategy, stakeholder engagement, and events that advance WRI India's priorities on climate action.

Before joining WRI India, Debkanya built a wide-ranging career across journalism, social enterprise, commons conservation, and technology. She began at NDTV 24x7, rising from city reporter to news anchor and senior output editor. She went on to lead CSR for a leading celebrity management agency — work that helped seed the founding of Ketto.org. She served as Program Director for India's first all-woman circumnavigation mission in a motorglider, which set three world records. She also led communications strategy at the Foundation for Ecological Security, and most recently headed marketing and brand-building at Tydy, an HR-tech startup which was acquired by a US-based unicorn in 2024.

Debkanya holds a Masters degree in Broadcast Journalism from Staffordshire University, UK. Over a career spanning more than two decades, she has developed deep expertise in strategic communications, narrative-building, and brand development across sectors as varied as media, commons conservation, community engagement, and B2B technology.

Debkanya reads voraciously, practices Krav Maga, and bakes healthy muffins. She lives in Mumbai with her husband, two daughters, and a very enthusiastic cocker spaniel called Play-doh.
