Chirag Bansal
Senior Program Associate – Food, Land and Water
Chirag Bansal is a Senior Program Associate, Food Loss and Food Waste with WRI India’s Food, Land and Water program. He works on building partnerships with public and private sector companies to reduce food loss across agricultural value chains, contributing to India’s progress toward SDG 12.3. His focus includes stakeholder engagement, post-harvest interventions, and sustainable supply chain design.
Before joining WRI India, Chirag worked with Zomato across two key verticals—Climate Initiatives and Feeding India. In Climate Initiatives, he led agroforestry projects across multiple states, focusing on nature-based solutions that enhance ecosystem resilience, biodiversity, and carbon sequestration. At Feeding India, he served as a grant manager for the Daily Feeding Program, overseeing large-scale nutrition interventions and multi-crore investments across India. He also designed food recovery pilots with fast moving consumer goods firms and famer producer organizations to reduce post-harvest losses. His earlier roles include a teaching fellowship at Teach For India and political consulting with I-PAC.
Chirag holds a Master’s in Social Work (Rural Development) and a Bachelor’s in Social Sciences from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Tuljapur. His academic training spans rural development, policy analysis, and community engagement, equipping him to address complex sustainability challenges.
Outside of work, Chirag enjoys photography and travelling. He is also a film enthusiast and loves attending film festivals.
