Abhinav Sharma
Program Manager - Energy

Abhinav Sharma is a Program Manager with the Energy Program at WRI India. His work focuses on India’s clean energy transition, with a strong emphasis on institutions, political economy, and governance. He has worked extensively on ESG and sustainability reporting for public electricity utilities, equity in clean energy access, and supply-side interventions to support electricity distribution utilities in the transition to cleaner energy.
Abhinav’s academic and professional journey is deeply rooted in the energy sector. His research interests lie in exploring the sociological and anthropological dimensions of bureaucracy, public institutions, and the political economy of energy infrastructure. He is particularly interested in how the state, technology, and the public intersect within energy systems.
Prior to joining WRI India, Abhinav worked with the Initiative on Climate, Energy and Environment at the Centre for Policy Research (CPR) and with Tata Power in their corporate regulatory function.
He holds a Ph.D. and M.Phil. in Planning and Development from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, and a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Government Engineering College, Jabalpur.
Outside of work, Abhinav enjoys cooking, quizzing, and reading history and Hindi literature.
