International Conference on Scaling Up Good Adaptation Practices
The adverse effects of climate variations and climate change have a significant bearing on developing countries. A growing body of evidence from across the world suggests that appropriate adaptation choices can help manage climate risks effectively. Although climate change response strategies are being planned at various scales, adaptation initiatives tend to be implemented as stand-alone and short-term projects. This is partly because there is a limited knowledge on what constitutes good adaptation practice and how it can be scaled to benefit more people.
For adaptation to be successful and to scale adaptation projects, it is important that the indicators of good adaptation practice, pathways to scaling, and the enabling factors and the barriers to scaling adaptation projects are well understood. The Global Programme on Climate Change (GPCC) of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is supporting an initiative on 'Scaling up good adaptation practices' in India in partnership with the World Resources Institute (WRI) and Watershed Organization Trust (WOTR).
Objectives of the Conference
- To share the latest thinking on scaling good adaptation practices through the launch of WRI’s “Scaling Up Good Adaptation Practices in Rainfed Agricultural Regions of India” report.
- To learn about scaling good adaptation practices across Africa and Asia by inviting adaptation experts from these regions to speak at the conference.
- To discuss ways forward to scale good adaptation practices in the future.
