PRESS RELEASE: WRI India signs MoU with BSES YAMUNA POWER LIMITED

New Delhi, September 9, 2022: On 9 September 2022, World Resources Institute (WRI) India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) with the aim to explore opportunities in the energy sector in the BYPL service area in Delhi and to jointly work and support the emerging policy and technical landscape related to Sustainability and Clean technology projects.

The MoU was signed by Dr. O.P. Agarwal (CEO, WRI India) and Mr. Brajesh Kumar (Head -Business, BYPL). Mr Bharath Jairaj, Director, Energy Program, Mr. Tirthankar Mandal, Head, Energy Policy and Ms Geetika Gupta, Manager, Energy Program from WRI India and Mr Mukesh Dadhich, Head – Business Development, Sustainability & Clean Technology, and Mr Sunil Sharma, Sustainability and Cleantech from BYPL were present at the time of signing.

With this collaboration, WRI India intends to work in collaboration, carry out projects, research and analysis in the BYPL service areas on emerging topics such as battery energy storage systems, explore pertinent research areas in power distribution and new technologies. They also plan on undertaking new studies towards renewable energy integration and adoption.

“The MoU between WRI India and BYPL will help advance the overall understanding of RE integration. This will lead to new opportunities that are going to be created due to emerging policy and regulatory scenarios. WRII will also work with BYPL in developing innovative ideas for adoption of higher RE for different consumer categories within BYPL service areas based on the existing regulation and policies. We truly hope that this will be an enriching journey for both organizations in the days to come.” said Dr. OP Agarwal, CEO, WRI India.

Speaking at the signing, Mr. Brajesh Kumar, Head – Business, BYPL, said, “We in BYPL believe that this MoU will help both WRI India and BYPL to expand knowledge on the complex issues of grid management and renewable energy integration in a future where the country is going to add ambitious RE capacities. Innovative solutions developed through collaborative research with WRI India will facilitate BYPL's decisions in many ways in future...”

This partnership may lead to establishment of an Innovation or Energy Lab supported by WRI India and facilitated by BYPL.

About BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL)
BYPL has been the frontrunner in implementing power distribution reforms in the capital city of Delhi and is acknowledged for its quality, reliable power supply and customer friendly practices. BYPL is a joint venture between Reliance Infrastructure Limited and Govt of NCT of Delhi with a 51%: 49% shareholding. The company started operations on July 1, 2002 post the unbundling of the erstwhile Delhi Vidyut Board (DVB).
