Call for Collective Action to Shape Ahmedabad’s Public Transport Future at Amdavad.NXT
Ahmedabad, February 13, 2026: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is hosting Amdavad.NXT: Unlocking the Potential of Public Transport, a three-day exhibition and convening from 20–22 February 2026 at Riverfront House, Ahmedabad. The initiative aims to spark dialogue on building an inclusive, people-centric, and climate-resilient public transport system aligned with the city’s long-term aspirations.
Conceived as a collaborative platform, Amdavad.NXT brings together government, practitioners, civil society, academic institutions, students and citizens to trace Ahmedabad’s mobility journey and chart the road ahead. This one-of-a-kind initiative is being organized by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) under the SHIFT Transport coalition, in partnership with WRI India, TUL Foundation, UrbanVoices, aProCh, MyByk and other stakeholders. The exhibition and convening will be open to all.
“At a time when Ahmedabad is preparing for global engagement, mobility choices made today will shape the city’s social, economic, and environmental outcomes for decades to come,” said Madhav Pai, CEO, WRI India. “We see this as an opportunity for all mobility practitioners and innovators to join hands and strengthen the city’s public transport to make it the backbone of the city’s future,” he added.
Amdavad.NXT aims to make transport planning more accessible and engaging for citizens while opening up conversations on integration, accessibility, service quality, and the role of walking, cycling and shared transport.
“Cities that succeed in shifting travel towards public, shared, and active transport are better positioned to deliver cleaner air, safer streets, and more equitable access to opportunity,” said Pawan Mulukutla, Executive Program Director, Integrated Transport, Clean Air and Hydrogen, WRI India. “Amdavad.NXT seeks to move to sustainable transport systems that prioritise people, efficiency, and climate resilience.”
“Meaningful transport transformation requires collaboration across institutions and disciplines,” said Abhijit Lokare, TUL Foundation. “By opening up this platform to practitioners, researchers, designers, operators, and students, we hope to create a space for shared learning and collective problem-solving.”
Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Bhairavi Joshi, Director and CEO, BYCS India Foundation added, “What makes this convening unique is its emphasis on public engagement. It recognizes citizens, especially young people, not just as users of transport systems, but as co-creators of the city’s mobility future.”
As a long-standing partner to cities across India, WRI India looks forward to working closely with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and partners to ensure that insights from Amdavad.NXT translate into sustained action, informed decision-making, and long-term impact.
