Join World Resources Institute for the launch of a new report that reveals the true opportunity of restoring landscapes in India and around the world.
The UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030) is building a strong global movement for a sustainable future. Nature-based solutions like landscape restoration are a triple-win: They can cost-effectively create jobs and protect local livelihoods, safeguard biodiversity, and help limit climate change.
To reach those goals, local people must be at the centre of planning, designing, and implementing restoration projects. By adapting the Restoration Opportunities Assessment Methodology (ROAM) to measure ecosystem services, livelihood benefits, land tenure, and gender and social inclusion, WRI India has revealed the true opportunity of restoration for communities in Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi District.
That analysis found that restoring 75% of the District’s land could store more than 7 million tons of carbon in forests within 20 years and create 3,000 microenterprises that employ 30,000 people, many from marginalized groups.
