Tamil Nadu Solar Energy Policy

Auroville Consulting and WRI India are hosting a one-day strategy workshop on Tamil Nadu Solar Energy Policy to help the State surpass the solar energy generation targets.

Growing urbanization and increasing economic activity is leading to a rising demand for electricity services. The Government of Tamil Nadu is committed to supplement the conventional sources of energy with renewable sources, in order to meet the demand in a sustainable manner. In this regard, the Tamil Nadu Government announced a comprehensive Solar Energy Policy in 2012, opening the doors for renewable energy in the State. But, there have been challenges in achieving the goals set by the policy.

This workshop aims to revisit the existing Solar Energy Policy and its enabling framework. Solar developers, consumers, academics, civil society organisations and other stakeholders will come together with representatives from the Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA), Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB), the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) and the Tamil Nadu Government (Energy Department) for two one-day workshops. Participants will review the 2012 Policy, reconnect with the vision, discuss the ground realities, recognise barriers in planning and execution, and attempt to formulate workable solutions.
