Launch Event: Resilient, Inclusive and Sustainable Enterprises in Tamil Nadu (RISE TN)

The automotive sector contributes nearly 7.1% to India's GDP and provides direct and indirect employment to over 19 million people. Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are the backbone of India’s economy and the automobile supply chain. They are also energy intensive and extremely vulnerable to climate change impacts.

Decarbonisation of industry sector and MSMEs is inevitable as India moves towards meeting its net zero by 2070 target. With Tamil Nadu’s vision of becoming global EV manufacturing hub, the role of MSMEs will be vital. However, it is also crucial to acknowledge that this ongoing transition complemented by climate change impacts can greatly accentuate the existing vulnerabilities of MSMEs and their workforce.

Resilient, Inclusive, and Sustainable Enterprises in Tamil Nadu (RISE-TN) aims to support Tamil Nadu’s automotive sector by helping the state build future-ready, resilient, and sustainable MSMEs and a green inclusive workforce. Under RISE-TN, WRI India, with FaMe TN, and with support from industry associations and experts, will conduct research, industry engagement, capacity building and skilling to help automotive sector MSMEs implement feasible solutions for greener operations and a just and inclusive transition to electric vehicle manufacturing. Starting with Chennai and Coimbatore clusters, the initiative will also help MSMEs and workers build resilience to climate change as they leverage the opportunities in the emerging EV landscape in India.

WRI India invites MSME representatives, associations, skilling agencies, financial institutions, thought leaders, civil society organizations, and experts to join us for the launch of RISE TN at the Hilton Chennai on 27 October 2023.

RISE TN is part of WRI India’s ongoing work supported by the Climate Resilient Employees for a Sustainable Tomorrow (CREST) initiative of Ares Charitable Foundation to prepare resilient MSMEs and inclusive workforce for a just low carbon transition.

This event is open for all. No registration required. For any queries regarding the event, please write to Shreyas Joshi (shreyas.joshi@wri.org) or Supratheesh T (supratheesh.t@wri.org).
