IRP Workshop : Integrating Scenario Modeling and IRP Framework for Tamil Nadu

To enable India to achieve its long-term national clean energy and emissions reduction commitments, as well as Tamil Nadu’s ambitious 50% RE generation share target by 2030, robust integrated resource planning processes are essential. IRP can help identify the least-cost combinations of supply and end-use efficiency solutions to enable each state to meet its economic and social goals.
Aligned with these objectives, WRI India aims to strengthen the capacity of state institutions/agencies in Tamil Nadu for designing and co-development of IRP to support the state achieve an optimal energy mix, ensure emissions reduction, and achieve clean energy targets. Our partners from Prayas (Energy Group), the EmLab at the University of California and Centre for Climate Change and Disaster Management at Anna University will be supporting this initiative.
Building on the success of previous workshops, WRI India is hosting this session to further strengthen the capacity of key stakeholders in Tamil Nadu for effective integrated resource planning (IRP). This workshop will focus on integrating scenario modeling into the IRP framework, using the GridPath tool to assess Tamil Nadu’s energy transition pathways. Participants will engage in hands-on simulations, running predefined scenarios to analyze system reliability, cost optimization, and resource adequacy for informed energy planning. Through this session, WRI India continues to support Tamil Nadu’s efforts in developing a robust and sustainable energy plan, helping the state achieve its clean energy goals and resource adequacy targets.
