Position Overview:

The Energy Communications Co-ordinator is a key member of WRI India Energy team, working closely with the communications team to plan, manage, and implement communications activities to further the objectives of the Energy Program’s work in India. The India Energy Program strategy has four interlinked work streams aimed at informing and guiding India’s transition to clean energy - (a) promoting renewable energy, (b) promoting buildings and energy efficiency; (c) enhancing energy access in India’s poorer states; and (d) supporting key Indian states in their energy transition.

This person will be responsible for communicating the India energy story across a variety of platforms, including social media and other web platforms, and to stakeholders such as external media and others who are important for the energy program. The person will also function as the liaison between WRI’s energy programs across geographies.

The position is based in Bangalore or Delhi, India; and will work report to the WRI India Energy Program Director.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop a communications plan to promote the WRI India’s Energy Program locally, regionally, and internationally. A successful candidate will be able to identify communications opportunities, develop content, and ensure timely dissemination across appropriate channels.

• Develop and maintain a calendar of events happening in India, and in which staff are participating, as well as broader energy related events for outreach.

• Develop and maintain media lists and develop op-eds, articles and other pieces to media professionals in India and the region.

• Manage, update and curate content on relevant web platforms, and serve as the point of contact for the implementation of similar properties in the future.

• Contribute content for WRI’s media and social media channels to ensure that the work of the India Energy team is adequately represented.

• Work closely with WRI India communications staff to cross-promote content, ensure the right use of templates and design in keeping with WRI’s brand guidelines.

• Create graphics, infographics, and other digital content like videos to promote key events and publication launches.

• Create and maintain a repository of images that can be used across a variety of communications and research products.

• Maintain an editorial calendar for blogs, opinion pieces, and other articles to ensure content from the team is periodically published on WRI’s blogs and external publications.

• Perform quality control checks on all new and revised content to check for length, language, flow, and grammar in keeping with WRI’s style guide.

• Coordinate with external vendors for the production of knowledge products, material required for events, program brochures, and other collaterals.

• Maintain contact lists for the program and send out periodic newsletters and other emailers using Pardot.

• Participate as a core member of the India energy team in weekly calls and other meetings and keep other WRI offices updated regularly about the work being undertaken.

Qualifications

• Masters degree preferred in fields such as communications, marketing, business, social or environmental studies.

• Minimum 7 years of full time experience working with the following:

  • Online content management systems, particularly open-source platforms such as Drupal or WordPress
  • Social media management
  • Project management experience developing websites and other marketing collateral using external vendors

• Experience of working in and knowledge of the energy sector in India and the evolving energy landscape. Commitment to and understanding of the energy and development space on an ongoing basis

• Experience and ability working with colleagues located in different geographies across different time zones.

• Willingness to travel for work often on short notice.

• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to manage multiple tasks across different teams, and take initiative to get things done.

• Ability to build and maintain productive relationships internally and externally.

• Demonstrated English writing ability to communicate complex ideas in well-organised, everyday language.

• Knowledge of and ability to conduct communication campaigns in vernacular languages will be an added asset.

• Basic photo-processing and editing skills.

• Ability to self-manage and meet deadlines.

• Enthusiasm, flexibility, technical curiosity, and willingness to learn.
