Climate Resilience: Illustrations from India
Authors: Dr A Nambi Appadurai, Dr Sahana Chattaraj, Yasar Waheed Khan
Resilience against the varied stress and shocks of climate change requires a unique set of strategies that enable and empower stakeholders, in particular local communities, to manage the risks posed by a changing climate to lives, livelihoods, and the planet. Despite the existence of such strategies, there is a lack of understanding of how climate resilience is built in different contexts, their contribution to climate actions, and associated long-term benefits. This document showcases ten illustrations of initiatives across India that provide pathways to accelerate the shift to a resilient future. It covers multiple sectoral and cross-sectoral themes of agriculture, water, forest, and urban, rural, and peri-urban development. These initiatives provide perspectives of stakeholders from different standings- farmers and entrepreneurs to research institutions and administration.
