WRI India CEO Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

WRI India's CEO, OP Agarwal's contribution to the urban transport sector was recognised via a lifetime achievement award at the Prawaas 2017 conference held in Navi Mumbai on 29 July. The award was presented by Ramalinga Reddy, Diwar Rowte, and CP Singh - the Ministers of Transport for Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Bihar respectively.

"I am honoured to be the recipient of this prestigious award and grateful that my work in the urban transport space has been recognised" said OP Agarwal, "I believe urban transportation is the key to urban transformation, and I want to also acknowledge the contributions of many others, including my colleagues at WRI, who have worked tirelessly to promote sustainable mobility, in India and globally".

OP Agarwal began his career serving as a member of the Indian Administrative Service, holding several positions from 1979 to 2007 before he moved to the World Bank as an Urban Transport Advisor. During his tenure as head of India's Urban Transport division, he authored India's National Urban Transport Policy, a document that outlines the priorities for sustainable urban transport at all levels of government. More recently, he was the Executive Director at the Indian School of Business, and chaired the US Transport Research Board's Committee on Transportation in Developing Countries. OP Agarwal has a PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology, and a Master's degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
