COP 22 - Sustainable Transportation Network: Achieving India’s INDCs

Meeting the mobility needs of a growing middle urban class is one of the largest challenges faced by developing countries. For India to move forward, a transport sector strategy based on the principles of a sustainable and low-carbon system is critical. This sector has significant potential for greenhouse gas emissions’ (GHG) mitigation. The panel discussion, organised by the Ministry of Railways and the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), will highlight various paths to realise this potential in the context of developing countries.

Vivek Adhia, WRI India, will be a panelist and will present WRI India’s key sectoral work in this space, including the Freight Rationalisation Tool (i.e. mapping out low carbon options for large corporates) and our research on pathways for railways to increase the share of freight. A case study on the Delhi International Airport’s carbon neutrality journey will also be highlighted.
